Iran has granted permission for six Bangladesh-flagged vessels, previously stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, to resume their journey, the Iranian ambassador to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, announced today(April 1).
Speaking at a press conference at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, the ambassador said the development follows coordination between the two countries’ authorities. “We informed Tehran about the six ships. Iran’s National Security Council has approved assistance for these vessels. Earlier, we could not identify them due to the lack of detailed specifications,” he explained.
According to BSS, the Bangladesh government had provided the required detailed specifications of the ships last week at Iran’s request, enabling Tehran to authorize their movement.
Jahanabadi assured that work on facilitating the vessels’ passage is ongoing and confirmed there are no issues regarding the movement of Bangladeshi ships through the strait. “We will extend full cooperation in this regard,” he added.
The development is expected to ease concerns over maritime delays affecting Bangladeshi trade in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
