The Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) has unveiled a $96 million assistance package for Bangladesh, set to begin in 2026, focusing on AI-driven skills, digital security, rural development and support for vulnerable communities.
Koica President Chang Won-sam presented the plan during a meeting with the Economic Relations Division (ERD) on 2 December, attended by ERD Secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiky and Additional Secretary Mirana Mahrukh. According to a TBS report, the package reflects Korea’s commitment to expanding long-term development cooperation with Bangladesh.

A major highlight is the $30 million decade-long project to develop smart and eco-friendly ship recycling experts using Physical AI technology, running from 2027 to 2036. Another $30 million will fund the Saemaul Plus End Poverty Program (SPEPP) from 2026 to 2034 to boost rural governance and sustainable development.
Koica is also investing $26 million in Bangladesh’s technology and cybersecurity sectors through two parallel projects: one to train AI-focused technology experts (2026–2029) and another to establish a National Intelligent Cybersecurity Center (2028–2032), each supported by $13 million.
In addition, $10 million has been allocated for a new UNFPA-supported project aimed at strengthening healthcare and sanitation services for adolescents and youth in Rohingya camps and host communities.
Koica’s ongoing support includes major 2025 projects on big data and nursing education, with Korea now ranking sixth among Bangladesh’s ODA partners. The new initiatives further deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
