Nike has responded to the competition in the athletics 'super shoe' market after Kenyan runner Kelvin Kiptum broke Eliud Kipchoge's world marathon record while wearing the company's latest prototype of carbon-plated trainers. Kiptum achieved a remarkable time of 2 hours, 35 seconds in Chicago, beating Kipchoge's previous record of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 9 seconds. The prototype shoe, named 'NikeDev163' by World Athletics, is considered the next iteration of Nike's Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% 2, currently sold for £279.95. The shoes are equipped with stiff carbon plates, a curved midsole design for propulsion, and high-energy foam. Adidas also recently released its own super-light Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 shoes for optimal use in one marathon. This competition is heating up the super shoe market in the world of athletics.
