Saudi Arabia and paksitan are set to sign an agreement addressing the long-standing issue of the legal status of Rohingya Muslims, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Wednesday(October 19).
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the development following his meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki at the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad. Both sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation on security matters, and advancing humanitarian issues, including the plight of Rohingya Muslims.
According to AR News, the agreement seeks to regularize the legal identity and residency status of Rohingya Muslims who have been living without documentation for decades. The initiative is expected to improve their access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, marking a significant step toward resolving their uncertain status in both countries.
The Saudi ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating the agreement and thanked the government for supporting a comprehensive framework to protect vulnerable communities. “We are proud of our deep ties with the people of Pakistan,” Ambassador Al-Malki said.
Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized that the upcoming accord reflects both nations’ shared commitment to justice and humanitarian cooperation. “This agreement will pave the way for long-term solutions to the challenges faced by the Rohingya community,” he added.
A formal signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia next week, marking a milestone in joint humanitarian and diplomatic efforts between Islamabad and Riyadh.
Federal Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha was also present at the meeting.
In a related development, Pakistan’s Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Aamir Raza, held high-level discussions with Saudi military leadership in Riyadh earlier this week. The talks focused on enhancing defence cooperation and strengthening ties under the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening fraternal relations and contributing to regional peace and stability.
