Cristiano Ronaldo said his passion for football remains as strong as ever as he continues his pursuit of an unprecedented 1,000 career goals, after being named Best Middle East Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday (December 28).
The 40-year-old Portuguese forward received the award for the second consecutive year following another prolific season with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. Ronaldo’s brace in Al Nassr’s league match on Saturday lifted his overall tally to 956 goals for club and country, keeping his historic target firmly within reach, according to Reuters.
Speaking after collecting the award, Ronaldo said his motivation to continue playing has not diminished despite his age. “It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated,” he said, adding that his love for the game continues to drive him forward.

Ronaldo also dismissed suggestions that his move to the Middle East has reduced his competitive edge. “My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn't matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football and I want to keep going,” he said, according to Reuters.
With the veteran forward indicating he plans to play on for “one or two more years,” he expressed confidence that the landmark goal figure is achievable, provided he stays fit. “You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and I want to reach that number 1,000 goals,” Ronaldo said. “I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries,” Reuters reported.
Ronaldo’s sustained scoring form and continued ambition underline his determination to extend one of football’s most decorated careers, even as he enters his fifth decade.
