Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath will visit Thailand from September 14 to 16 to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in labour, tourism and migration.

Herath is travelling at the invitation of Thailand’s Minister of Labour. During the three-day visit, he is scheduled to meet Thailand’s labour and tourism ministers as well as the acting foreign minister.

According to News1st, the discussions will focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, with labour mobility and employment expected to feature prominently in the talks.

Sri Lanka and Thailand are also set to deepen cooperation through two agreements covering labour relations and the recruitment of Sri Lankan workers for employment in Thailand. The agreements are expected to provide a framework for greater cooperation on overseas employment and labour mobility.

The visit will also address tourism cooperation and efforts to increase people-to-people contacts between the two countries. Colombo sees Thailand as an important partner for expanding economic and employment opportunities while strengthening regional ties.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Ministry said the visit would help advance practical cooperation in tourism, employment and migration, while contributing to stronger economic engagement between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
