In a landmark move for the country’s digital infrastructure, Starlink officially launched its satellite internet services in Bangladesh today. The announcement was confirmed on Starlink’s X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, “Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Bangladesh!”
Chief Adviser to the Government, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, extended his congratulations to all stakeholders for making this development possible. The message was conveyed through a statement by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, posted on the Chief Adviser’s verified Facebook page.
The satellite internet service enters the Bangladeshi market with two initial packages: Starlink Residence at BDT 6,000/month and Residence Lite at BDT 4,200/month. A one-time equipment setup cost of BDT 47,000 applies to both, offering unlimited data with speeds up to 300 Mbps.

“This marks a historic step in bridging the digital divide,” Azad said. “Despite the premium pricing, Starlink provides a sustainable and reliable alternative for businesses, NGOs, freelancers, and rural entrepreneurs who have long suffered from inadequate connectivity.”
To further amplify the impact of this rollout, the government has also announced a new national initiative titled “Digital Reach 2041.” The program aims to provide subsidized Starlink access to remote educational institutions, rural healthcare centers, and underserved island communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and coastal zones by 2026.
Under the initiative: 500 remote schools will receive free Starlink terminals,A tech grant will subsidize 60% of the installation cost for NGOs and registered rural co-ops.
A dedicated “Digital Entrepreneur Fund” of BDT 100 crore will be launched to support startups operating in newly connected regions.
“The launch of Starlink is not just the arrival of a new internet service — it’s the dawn of a new connectivity era,” said Azad. “With government backing through Digital Reach 2041, we’re ensuring this revolution is inclusive, transformative, and truly nationwide.”
Experts believe that this hybrid model of private sector innovation supported by public investment could accelerate Bangladesh’s push toward Smart Bangladesh and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
The service is now open for orders via Starlink’s website, with deliveries expected to begin within the next few weeks.
