Yunus to be Special Highlight at Boao Forum for Asia on China Visit

Prof Yunus warmly welcomed at Qionghai Bo’ao International Airport


Nobel Laureate and Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus is set to be the special highlight of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Hainan Province as he embarks on the second day of his four-day official visit to China.

Prof Yunus, a global pioneer in social business and economic development, will engage in several high-profile discussions with international leaders and policymakers. Today, he is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Ding Xuexiang, Executive Vice Premier of the State Council of China, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.

Additionally, the chief adviser will meet with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, currently serving as the chairman of the forum, along with a distinguished group of global leaders, including Lao PDR Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, UN Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Qu Dongyu, and the deputy prime ministers of Russia and Mongolia.
Prof Yunus arrived in Hainan at 4:15 PM Bangladesh time yesterday on a special China Southern Airlines flight arranged by China. He was warmly received at Qionghai Bo’ao International Airport by Bangladesh Ambassador to China Nazmul Islam and a vice governor of Hainan Province.
A key highlight of his visit will be his bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of China tomorrow morning. Discussions will revolve around strategic bilateral issues, including trade and investment, agriculture, infrastructure, renewable energy cooperation, and the Rohingya crisis.
Attracting Chinese Investment & Promoting Social Business
Following his meeting with President Xi, Prof Yunus will engage in an investment dialogue with top Chinese business leaders, aiming to showcase Bangladesh’s investor-friendly environment and encourage more Chinese investments in the country.
He will also participate in three high-level roundtables focusing on sustainable infrastructure and energy investment, Bangladesh’s manufacturing and market opportunities, and social business and youth entrepreneurship. These discussions will feature CEOs from leading corporations, experienced social business professionals, and young entrepreneurs from both Bangladesh and China.

On March 29, Peking University will confer an honorary doctorate upon Prof Yunus, recognizing his outstanding contributions to global social entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation. Following the conferment, he will deliver a speech addressing students and faculty members.
Later in the day, he will give an exclusive interview to China Media Group, where he will discuss the evolving Bangladesh-China relationship, future policy directions, and Bangladesh’s position on contemporary global challenges.

Prof Yunus will conclude his China visit and return to Bangladesh on (March 29). His presence at the Boao Forum is expected to reinforce Bangladesh’s economic vision while inspiring global leaders in sustainable business practices and economic innovation.
