In a significant diplomatic development, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is set to visit Dhaka for a four-day official trip from March 13 to 16. This visit, confirmed by the UN chief’s office, follows an invitation extended by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the visit in a press release on Wednesday(February 26), highlighting the growing international recognition of Bangladesh's efforts in addressing key global issues, such as the Rohingya refugee crisis.

In a related development, Khalilur Rahman, the Chief Adviser’s High Representative on Rohingya Affairs, met with Guterres in New York earlier this month. During the meeting on February 7, Rahman handed over the invitation letter to the UN Secretary-General, marking a crucial step in strengthening diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and the United Nations.

The upcoming visit of Guterres underscores the positive momentum for Bangladesh under its interim government, which has been making strides in improving its international standing. With the government's active involvement in global dialogues, particularly regarding humanitarian issues, Bangladesh is gaining a more vibrant international reputation. The trip is expected to further solidify the country's position as a key player in regional and global affairs, as well as highlight its continued commitment to addressing the pressing issue of Rohingya refugees.

This visit also reflects the significant importance of Bangladesh's diplomatic relations with the United Nations and its ongoing efforts to engage with the international community on various global challenges.
