The Bangladesh government has increased security measures at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka following a protest and attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Diplomatic Security Division) Mohammad Noor-e-Alam confirmed the enhanced security arrangements on Monday (November 2) evening.
Additional forces have been deployed outside the Indian High Commission, with the Diplomatic Security Division working alongside the Gulshan Division and Traffic Division to ensure heightened safety in the area. Regular checkpoints have also been established as part of the precautionary measures.
"We are not anticipating any immediate threats, but security has been intensified following the Agartala incident," said Noor-e-Alam.
Earlier, members of the Hindu Sangarsha Samiti vandalized the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala in protest of alleged minority persecution in Bangladesh and the arrest of Chinmoy Das. Reports indicate the protesters also set fire to an area in front of the commission office.
