Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain called on Singapore to take a leading role within ASEAN to help find a sustainable and lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis. His appeal came during a meeting with Mitchel Lee, the newly appointed Chargé d' Affaires (CDA) of Singapore in Bangladesh, who presented his Letter of Commission (LOC) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hossain emphasized that the only permanent solution to the ongoing Rohingya issue lies in their safe and dignified repatriation to Myanmar.
The two officials also discussed several areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, cooperation in the ICT sector, education, tourism, energy, and the potential for sending skilled and semi-skilled manpower to Singapore. Clean energy and energy supply chain collaborations, as well as training programs for public servants, were also highlighted.
Hossain underscored the importance of sharing expertise between the two countries, particularly in the fields of IT startups and electronics, to promote mutual benefits. He also noted Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to create a more favorable business environment for foreign investors and expressed hope for increased cooperation with Singapore in this regard.
Welcoming Lee to his new role, the Foreign Adviser assured him of full cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
