A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was seriously injured in a landmine explosion on Sunday(October 12) along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

The incident occurred around 12:30 PM near border pillar No. 41. The injured soldier has been identified as Naik Akhter Hossain (ID-62126) of the 34th BGB, posted at the Reju Amtali Border Outpost (BOP).

According to BGB and local sources, the explosion happened while a patrol team was inspecting a proposed site for a temporary security post inside Bangladeshi territory. The blast severed Naik Akhter's right ankle and caused severe injuries to his left leg.

Fellow BGB members quickly rescued him and, after administering first aid, evacuated him to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Ramu Cantonment, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

When contacted, Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), stated that a detailed press release regarding the incident would be issued later.

This event has heightened tensions in the border areas of Tumbru and Ghumdhum, which have recently experienced repeated incidents of gunfire and explosions, causing widespread panic among the local population.
