Heavy rain again disrupted normal life in India’s capital Delhi on Tuesday, with several areas facing waterlogging, traffic congestion and difficult road conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

The IMD said heavy rainfall was likely in Delhi over the following two to three hours, with moderate rain and winds of 30-40 kmph expected in many areas. The warning covers all major districts of the capital.

According to NDTV, 15 flights were diverted from Delhi airport on Monday as severe weather affected operations, including three international flights. Twelve flights were sent to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow. Flight operations were reported normal on Tuesday morning despite the fresh weather warning.

Neighboring Gurugram also faced severe waterlogging after heavy rain on Monday, affecting key roads and leaving school buses and vehicles stranded. Authorities advised offices to allow employees to work from home and schools to conduct classes online amid the disruption.

IMD scientist Dr Shashi Kant said the intense rainfall was caused by the interaction of dry northerly winds over Delhi with moisture-laden easterly winds linked to a low-pressure system near West Bengal.
