Myanmar  has replaced Lieutenant General Nyunt Win Swe as home affairs minister with General Ko Ko Oo, chief of the armed forces’ general staff.

The reshuffle comes as regime forces struggle to regain ground from ethnic armed groups in Kachin and Rakhine states. In Kachin, resistance forces have disrupted military supply operations along the Irrawaddy River, while the regime’s latest offensive in Rakhine has also faced strong resistance from the Arakan Army.

Ko Ko Oo had overseen several of the troubled military operations. The Irrawaddy reported that his transfer to the Home Affairs Ministry could effectively remove him from the military’s senior command structure, as chief of the general staff is one of the army’s most powerful positions.

Nyunt Win Swe, who was appointed home affairs minister only in April, is expected to return to military duties. His next assignment could indicate whether the reshuffle represents a broader change in the regime’s military leadership.

The move comes as the junta continues to reorganize senior positions while facing sustained battlefield pressure across several parts of Myanmar.
