Myanmar on Saturday observed the 79th Anniversary of Martyrs' Day with a state ceremony at the Martyrs' Mausoleum in Yangon, where President U Min Aung Hlaing led tributes to independence hero General Aung San and other fallen national leaders.

The president laid a wreath on behalf of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and paid homage to General Aung San and the martyrs. He also greeted family members of the martyrs and invited guests attending the ceremony.

Senior government officials, including Union ministers, the Yangon Region chief minister, senior military officers, the commander of Yangon Command and deputy ministers, also laid wreaths and paid tribute to the country's fallen leaders.

During the ceremony, the national flag was lowered to half-mast while a Guard of honor presented arms and a military bugler sounded the Last Post. Participants then observed a two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs, according to Myanmar Television (MTV).

Wreaths were also laid by the families of the martyrs, representatives of the Yangon Region government, political parties, heads of foreign diplomatic missions, chargés d'affaires, and representatives from various organizations and associations.

Members of the public later visited the Martyrs' Mausoleum to pay their respects to General Aung San and the other leaders who were assassinated on July 19, 1947, a pivotal event in Myanmar's modern history.
