Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, issued a stark warning to the international community on Friday, stating that any assistance provided to the Myanmar military junta's planned "sham and fraudulent" election will only deepen the suffering of the nation's people, According to a report from Khit Thit Media.

The ambassador's remarks were delivered during a meeting of the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on October 13.

Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun asserted that Myanmar's development progress has been significantly reversed since the military's illegal coup attempt. He accused the junta of destroying the rule of law and creating safe havens for criminals and their allied Border Guard Forces, which has led to a proliferation of transnational crime.

"Any assistance from some UN member states for the terrorist military group's planned sham and fraudulent election will only deepen the suffering of the public, lead to more violence and instability, and completely reverse the development gains that have been achieved," the Ambassador warned. He strongly urged the international community to decisively reject the proposed election.

Detailing the dire situation in the country, he highlighted that the junta's actions have exacerbated poverty by displacing civilians and blocking access to basic services. In conflict zones, military forces are continuously burning down villages, destroying livestock and agricultural lands, leading to rising hunger and food insecurity.

The education of children has also been severely impacted, with airstrikes on schools forcing students to learn in bomb shelters or temporary camps. Furthermore, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun pointed to the growing gender inequality, accusing the junta of perpetrating sexual and gender-based violence against women in both physical and digital spaces.

He also noted that the junta's forced conscription law is compelling young people to flee their homes, causing a decline in the domestic labor force and economic opportunities. He stressed that the resulting instability from a fraudulent election would not only harm Myanmar but would also threaten peace and stability across the entire region.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun reiterated his call for the international community to stand with the people of Myanmar, support their efforts to end the military dictatorship, and help build a federal democratic union for lasting peace, stability, and sustainable development.
