Bangladesh will host a three-day international stakeholders’ conference in Cox’s Bazar from August 25, ahead of a high-level meeting on the Rohingya issue scheduled for September 30 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The conference, titled “Partner Dialogue: Messages Received for Discussion at the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation”, will be held at Hotel Baywatch in Inani, Ukhia. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is expected to attend the event as the chief guest, along with foreign ministers, international envoys on Rohingya affairs, representatives of Bangladesh missions abroad, and various UN agencies.

Cox’s Bazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sajeeb confirmed the event, noting that it coincides with the eighth anniversary of the Rohingya influx into Bangladesh. The initiative aims to mobilize international funding for displaced Rohingyas and reinforce global efforts for their safe repatriation to Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

The three-day programme will feature five working sessions on humanitarian assistance, repatriation strategies, and long-term solutions for the Rohingya crisis. Participants will also attend cultural events, exhibitions, and a visit to the refugee camps on August 26.

National Security Adviser and High Representative on Rohingya Affairs Dr.Khalilur Rahman said the Cox’s Bazar conference is part of the preparations for the UN-led high-level conference on September 30, which is being sponsored by 106 countries. He emphasized that Bangladesh had earlier called for such a global initiative at the UN General Assembly, which received unanimous support.

The government hopes the Cox’s Bazar gathering will serve as a platform to consolidate international consensus, strengthen humanitarian partnerships, and generate momentum for a durable solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis.
