In a continued effort to relocate Rohingya refugees, another group of 1,250 individuals departed from Ukhiya and Teknaf camps in Cox's Bazar for Bhasan Char in Noakhali today.
Commander of Armed Police Battalion-14, Additional DIG Md Iqbal, stated that this marks the 24th phase of the relocation process to Bhasan Char. Among the group, 1,141 are relocating permanently, while 109 are visiting relatives on the island.
After undergoing health checks at Ukhiya College premises on Thursday, the Rohingyas were transported to Chattogram by bus. From there, they will be transferred to Bhasan Char via Navy ship.
The relocation initiative, which began on December 4, 2020, aims to alleviate pressure on Cox's Bazar, where approximately 1.3 million Rohingyas reside across 33 camps.
