Rohingya refugees have voiced their strong desire to return to their homeland in Myanmar, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres revealed during his visit to the Ukhiya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Speaking after his visit, Guterres emphasized the two key messages he received from the displaced community. “Their first message is a clear call for the restoration of peace in Myanmar and the assurance of equal rights in their motherland,” he said, urging the international community to take concrete steps toward these goals.

The second pressing concern raised by the Rohingyas was the dire need for improved living conditions in the camps. The situation has worsened as the US and several donor nations have significantly reduced humanitarian aid, forcing UN agencies to cut food rations for refugees.

Guterres pledged his unwavering commitment to mobilizing global support, stating that he will exert his highest efforts to secure necessary funds and prevent further deterioration of conditions in the camps.

He also vowed to advocate for the Rohingyas on the international stage, highlighting their urgent need for foreign assistance to ensure they can live with dignity.
