Russia on Tuesday called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to address their longstanding differences through dialogue, urging both neighboring countries to avoid further tensions following recent cross-border incidents that have strained relations.
In a statement, Russia's Foreign Ministry described the recent Pakistani air operations near the border as a "tragic episode" and appealed to Islamabad and Kabul to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic engagement.
"The Russian side urges Islamabad and Kabul to resolve disputed issues through political and diplomatic means," the ministry said.
The appeal follows Pakistan's recent military operations in areas near the Afghan border, which prompted a sharp exchange of statements between the two sides. The United Nations said on Monday that at least 28 people lost their lives in the incidents, while Pakistani officials and the Afghan Taliban reported higher casualty figures.
According to reports by The Straits Times, the latest developments highlight the fragile relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where recurring border incidents and differing narratives continue to challenge regional stability despite repeated international calls for restraint.
Islamabad has repeatedly expressed concerns that militant groups responsible for attacks inside Pakistan operate from Afghan territory. The Afghan Taliban administration has rejected those claims, maintaining that security challenges in Pakistan are an internal matter and denying that Afghan soil is being used for activities targeting its neighbor.
The recent developments have renewed international concern over security along the shared border, with several countries encouraging both governments to prioritize dialogue, confidence-building measures and diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration in bilateral relations.
