Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday participated in the plenary session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the northeastern Chinese port city of Dalian, marking his first appearance at the global forum since assuming office.
The session, titled "Innovating at Scale," was held at the Dalian International Conference Centre and brought together heads of government, business leaders and policymakers from across the world. According to BSS, the plenary began at 9:00 am local time and was opened by World Economic Forum President and Chief Executive Officer Alois Zwinggi.
Among those attending the session were Chinese Premier Li Qiang, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Montenegro Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah.

On the sidelines of the event, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held informal discussions with several world leaders on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing areas of mutual interest. The leaders also participated in an official photo session during the conference proceedings.
The forum provided an opportunity for Bangladesh to showcase its economic potential to Chinese investors and leading international business executives. Participants were briefed on the country's investment climate, policy incentives and long-term development prospects.
Earlier, WEF President and CEO Alois Zwinggi paid a courtesy call on the Bangladeshi premier at the conference venue. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to sustainable development, climate resilience and international cooperation.
Highlighting Bangladesh's renewable energy goals, Tarique Rahman said the government has introduced tax incentives for solar power generation and aims to meet 20 percent of the country's electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030.
Zwinggi praised Bangladesh's efforts in climate adaptation and sustainable development, saying the prime minister's experience and initiatives in addressing climate challenges could contribute meaningfully to global discussions. He added that Bangladesh's growing climate resilience is likely to attract greater interest from international investors and financing institutions.
The WEF chief also assured continued cooperation with Bangladesh and extended an invitation to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Located in Liaoning Province, Dalian is regarded as one of Northeast Asia's key commercial and industrial hubs and is hosting this year's WEF gathering of political and business leaders.
