The doctor says, "He was admitted with bleeding in the head. Staying in the hospital for so long resulted in an infection. He had to be sent to ventilation. I could not bring him back. He died at 3.45 pm on Tuesday.”

Ustad Rashid Khan breathed his last at 3.45 pm. He was admitted for a long time in a private hospital in South Kolkata, India. He was on ventilation since Tuesday (January 9) morning. Despite the tireless efforts of the doctors, the end was not saved. He never returned to the world of his familiar sound. The light of Rashid's life was extinguished at the age of 55.

Rashid was born in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, Idia. Singer of Rampur-Saswan genre. The genre founded by Inayat Hussain Khan. However, Rashid's first talim (training) was from his uncle Ghulam Mustafa Khan, a maestro of the Gwalior gharana. Rashid was taken to Mumbai by his uncle at a very young age. He was admitted to an English medium school there. He also gave some training. But Rashid didn't like anything there. As a result, he returned to Budaun. Returning to Budaun, Rashid began taking lessons from his grandfather Nisar Hussain Khan, renowned Ustad of the Rampur-Saswan Gharana.

As a child, Rashid was no different from the other five children. In an interview, he said that he did not want to do Riwaz (Vocal Practice) as a child. He would get 'bored' if he did Riwaz for a long time. I thought I would give up singing. Dadu Nisar Hussain Khan Sahib was a man of strict nature. During Riwaz if a little mistake, straight slap-slap! Basically, I had to do Riwaz regularly due to the fear of him. In an interview with Kumarprasad Mukhopadhyay, Rashid frankly admitted that.

In 1978, Nisar Hossain Khan moved to Kolkata. He started his career as a teacher at the Music Research Academy (SRA). Rashid also came along. He passed the exam and began studying with his grandfather as a 'scholar'. During that time he was examined by personalities like Raichand Baral, A Kanan, Malvika Kanan, Vijay Kichlu, Viji Yoga and Deepali Nag. Recalling those days, Rashid told Kumarprasad, the first Raga Bhairav was learned. Grandpa told me to practice saying 'Sa' only for a few months. Kharje Riwaz continued for several months after that. After that, Nisar Hossain used to teach different bands. Delayed learning has not yet begun. After coming to SRA, Rashid learned to love classical music by coming in contact with talented artistes.

One of the features of Rashid's own was 'boltan'. Along with that, he also captured the style of returning to the mouth of the captive by making small movements. As a result, Nisar Hussain Khan's Boltan shadow was found in his songs, so he tried to make his own impression by crafting small sargams. Along with that, 'Tarana' got a significant place in his song. which he inherited. Because, Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan was able to take Tarana Gayan to a different height.

He believed that artists had God's instructions. Artists like him play music on his strength. As a result, Rashid did not confine himself to the teaching of the Rampur-Saswan style. Famous artists of all other genres have tried to take the best. Said, "My Guru Ustad Nisar Hussain always used to say, whatever you do, don't ever make anyone jealous. The death of music is inevitable if you commit violence. By doing sadhana (practice), one's own song is created.

That familiar voice will no longer sing. Rashid Khan will not open his eyes even if called 'Ayo Ge Jab Tum...'. In 1978, Rashid Khan sang in his first concert in Delhi at the age of 8. Since then, this artist has spent 24 hours a day practicing music. He also sang playback in movies. He has sung in Hindi and Bengali films. Mixing classical music with contemporary tunes, those songs have gained popularity among the new generation. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi once said about Rashid Khan that the future of Indian music rests in Rashid Khan's hands. Ustad Rashid Khan has also set the standard of Panditji in the world of music. In 2006, he was honored with the 'Padma Shri' and the 'Sangeet Nataka Academy Award' in the same year. In 2022, the artist was honored with 'Padma Bhushan'.
