The World Future Energy Summit 2025, organized by Masdar, is set to spotlight transformative urban development and the rise of smart cities at its Sustainable Cities exhibition and conference. Taking place from January 14 to 16 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), the summit will celebrate the UAE’s and the region’s strides in sustainable urban innovation, with Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia leading the way.

Leading the Charge in Urban Sustainability

Highlighting Abu Dhabi’s pivotal role, Mohamed Al Breiki, Executive Director for Sustainable Development at Masdar City, remarked:
“Masdar City has been a beacon of sustainable urban development for over 15 years, reinforcing the UAE’s vision for a net-zero future. Projects like Masdar City Square and The Link are testaments to our commitment to innovation, while the Masdar City Free Zone continues to foster industry collaboration in AI, renewable energy, and smart mobility.”

Transformative Investments in Smart Cities

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are poised to invest $50 billion in smart city projects by 2025. In the UAE, initiatives such as Masdar City, Noor Abu Dhabi, and the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant reflect a dedication to clean energy and sustainable progress.
Dubai’s "Dubai Walk" initiative, which aims to make 25% of the city pedestrian-friendly by 2040, further showcases the nation's forward-thinking sustainability goals.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is reshaping its urban landscape with giga projects that blend cutting-edge technology and eco-conscious design to align with sustainability objectives.
Innovation Driving the Vision

Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Pearl Rating system, an integral part of its Economic Vision 2030, sets global standards for sustainable building practices. This commitment to excellence earned Abu Dhabi a spot among the Top 10 Smart Cities worldwide in the 2024 Smart City Index, making it the only Middle Eastern city on the list.
Leen AlSebai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Head of the World Future Energy Summit, emphasized:
“The Sustainable Cities Conference will delve into critical issues such as energy optimization, waste management, and climate-resilient urban designs. It’s an invaluable platform for building partnerships essential for future-proof urban environments.”

A Hub for Collaboration

The summit will unite government leaders, urban planners, technology pioneers, and sustainability experts to discuss ESG-driven urban development and the integration of smart technologies. By fostering public-private partnerships, the event aims to accelerate sustainable urban transformation across the region.
With a focus on flagship projects and bold initiatives, the World Future Energy Summit 2025 underscores the Middle East’s commitment to creating smarter, greener cities for generations to come.
