Bangladesh’s State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, is currently visiting Tokyo to attend the two-day Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum, taking place from March 14 to 15 in the Japanese capital.

The high-level forum has been jointly organized by the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, bringing together energy ministers, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the Indo-Pacific region. The event is expected to focus on strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring a stable energy supply chain amid evolving geopolitical and market challenges.

Key organizers and participants include Doug Burgum, chairman of the council and U.S. Secretary of the Interior, along with Vice Chairman and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa Ryosei is also hosting the gathering in Tokyo.

Energy ministers and senior representatives from several Indo-Pacific countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam are participating in the discussions. Delegates are expected to exchange views on building a more resilient and diversified energy system capable of ensuring adequate, reliable, affordable, and secure energy supplies across the region.

According to a report broadcast by Jamuna Television, the Bangladeshi minister is also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum with representatives from the United States, Japan, and Brunei. The discussions are likely to focus on strengthening cooperation in the energy sector and exploring opportunities for foreign investment in Bangladesh’s growing power and energy infrastructure.

Officials said the meetings with international stakeholders and private sector representatives could open new avenues for collaboration, particularly in areas such as energy security, technology transfer, and sustainable power generation, which remain key priorities for Bangladesh as it seeks to diversify its energy mix and support long-term economic growth.
