Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Tokyo on Monday for a four-day official visit aimed at attracting Japanese investment, expanding trade and strengthening cooperation on the Rohingya crisis.
He was received at Narita International Airport by Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasutaka Nakasone before travelling to the Imperial Hotel, where he will stay during the visit.
According to BSS, Tarique is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on October 27, with discussions expected to cover the Rohingya crisis, regional stability, energy cooperation, and economic ties.
Dhaka is seeking stronger Japanese engagement in resolving the Rohingya crisis, with emphasis on a safe, voluntary, and dignified return of refugees to Myanmar. Bangladesh continues to host more than a million Rohingya who fled persecution and conflict, placing sustained pressure on its economy and humanitarian resources.
Investment and trade will also feature prominently in the talks. The two countries are expected to discuss implementing their Economic Partnership Agreement, signed in February, and attracting Japanese companies to establish factories in Bangladesh, create jobs and develop local skills.
During the visit, Tarique will meet development and business leaders, visit industrial and energy facilities, and deliver the keynote address at the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum. Several cooperation agreements are also under consideration in areas including agriculture, skills development, civil aviation and environmental conservation.
Japan has been a key development partner of Bangladesh since diplomatic relations were established in 1972, supporting major projects such as Dhaka's metro rail and infrastructure development at Matarbari.
