Myanmar’s President Min Aung Hlaing held talks with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Presidential Palace on Saturday, focusing on deepening bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and post-disaster reconstruction.

During the meeting, the Myanmar leader expressed appreciation for a congratulatory message sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping following his election and welcomed Wang’s visit as the first by a Chinese foreign minister during his presidency. He voiced optimism that relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi’s congratulations and said China’s swift diplomatic outreach reflected the importance Beijing places on its relationship with Myanmar. He reaffirmed China’s support for Myanmar’s development path and pledged continued backing on international platforms.

Both sides discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, and technology, as well as maintaining border stability and advancing peace efforts. China also reiterated its assistance in reconstruction following the recent Mandalay earthquake and emphasized joint efforts to combat cross-border online fraud.

According to regional diplomatic observers cited by Asia News Network, the meeting signals Beijing’s intent to maintain strong engagement with Nay Pyi Taw amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia.

The discussions also covered Myanmar’s role within ASEAN, broader international coordination, and mutual commitments to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and long-term stability. Senior ministers and officials from both countries attended the meeting.
