Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has highlighted the significance of the Sangrai festival in preserving the cultural heritage of the region, describing it as a symbol of tradition, identity, and communal harmony.

Addressing the inauguration of “Chingmrong Sangrai Relongpoye-2026” in the Chingmrong area of Kaptai upazila as the chief guest, the minister said Sangrai is more than a festive occasion, reflecting the rich cultural legacy of the hill tracts and the unity among its diverse communities.

He took part in a colorful procession organized to mark “Maha Sangrai Relongpoye” and formally declared the opening of the traditional festival of the Marma community.

Dewan noted that Bangladesh is a country known for its communal harmony, adding that such cultural celebrations play a vital role in strengthening social cohesion and preserving heritage. According to BSS, he also pointed out that the government is working tirelessly to improve the living standards of people in the hill tracts through quality education, better healthcare, and sustainable infrastructure development.

He further said that establishing a prosperous and stable society remains a key priority of the present government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The event was attended by respected religious figures, including senior Buddhist monks, the fourth Sangharaja, the Vice-Sangharaja, members of the monastic community from various vihars, as well as donors, devotees, and journalists from print and electronic media.
