Indonesia and China have agreed to deepen defense cooperation and strengthen collaboration on food, energy and mineral security during high-level talks in Jakarta.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed expanding cooperation in politics, security, maritime affairs, trade and advanced technology. According to AP, the talks also focused on improving coordination on development and security to support both countries’ modernization.
The two sides agreed to explore cooperation in artificial intelligence, communications satellites and new markets for Indonesian exports. Their defense ministers separately discussed military exchanges, defense equipment and joint exercises, including Indonesia’s invitation for Chinese forces to join the Heping Garuda exercise.
China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching about $167 billion in 2025. Beijing has also invested heavily in Indonesian infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
