The World Food Programme (WFP) has received $6.7 million from the government of Japan to support Rohingya refugees and host community farmers in Cox's Bazar.

According to a press release issued on 5 March, the funding will provide food assistance to Rohingya families and nutrition services for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five in the camps.

Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, said Japan remains committed to helping vulnerable communities affected by the Rohingya crisis and improving food security and nutrition.

The funding will also support farmers in host communities through agricultural aggregation centres, helping supply fresh food to the camps while improving farmers’ access to markets.

WFP said humanitarian needs remain high, with nearly 1.2 million Rohingya now living in Cox’s Bazar after renewed violence in Rakhine State. The agency warns its operations face a $150 million funding gap that could disrupt services from April 2026 if more support is not secured.
