Maldivian Resumes Direct Male–Dhaka Flights Ahead of Eid

Maldivian resumes Male-Dhaka flights, Water Cannon Salute for the 1st flight / Collected

Direct air connectivity between Bangladesh and the Maldives resumed on Thursday as Maldivian restarted its Male–Dhaka–Male service with a ceremonial water cannon salute at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The inaugural flight, operated by an Airbus A320, landed in Dhaka at 5:20am carrying a full passenger load and departed again at 6:20am. Arriving travelers were received by officials of the airline’s local General Sales Agent Galaxy Aviation Services.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the airline will initially operate the route twice weekly on Sundays and Thursdays, with return fares starting from around USD 399 (about BDT 47,880). Passengers are offered 30kg baggage allowance and complimentary onboard meals.

The resumption follows an agreement signed on February 23 between Maldivian Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim Yasir and Galaxy Bangladesh Group President and CEO Ahmed Yusuf Walid.

Officials said the relaunch is expected to boost travel and strengthen people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and the Maldives ahead of the Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr travel season.
