Nepalese authorities have issued arrest warrants for former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba over alleged corruption and money laundering, officials said Thursday.

The warrants were issued by a Kathmandu court following a request from the Department of Money Laundering Investigation. Deuba, 79, denied the allegations, calling them “false propaganda” and insisting his public life has been transparent.

According to AFP, the couple are currently abroad for long-term medical treatment, with reports suggesting they were recently in Singapore, as authorities consider seeking an Interpol notice.

The move comes amid a broader anti-corruption drive under Prime Minister Balendra Shah, following last year’s mass protests that toppled the previous government.

Several senior figures, including former premier KP Sharma Oli, have already been arrested as investigations continue.
