The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has launched a two-day promotional drive in Dhaka, marking its first media networking session and business-to-business (B2B) roadshow in Bangladesh as part of efforts to deepen tourism ties between the two countries.

The initiative, held on April 5–6, is aimed at positioning Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination for Bangladeshi tourists while strengthening cooperation with local stakeholders in the travel and media sectors.

The media networking session on Saturday brought together leading journalists and media professionals to showcase Sri Lanka’s tourism diversity, spanning leisure, cultural heritage, wellness retreats, and adventure travel. Officials anticipate that the engagement will enhance visibility and expand media coverage in Bangladesh. According to Banglanews 24, the move reflects a strategic push to tap into Bangladesh’s growing outbound travel market.

The second day features a B2B roadshow and networking event at Le Méridien Dhaka, where around 150 Bangladeshi travel agents and tour operators are interacting directly with Sri Lankan tourism stakeholders to explore partnerships and business opportunities.

The Sri Lankan delegation is led by SLTPB Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam and Assistant Director (South Asia) Shirani Herath, alongside representatives from 19 tourism companies.

Tourism figures indicate a steady rise in Bangladeshi visitors to Sri Lanka, with 59,563 arrivals recorded in 2025. Officials said 11,079 travelers have already visited the island nation as of March 31 this year, underscoring strong growth potential.

Authorities believe the Dhaka events will further consolidate Sri Lanka’s presence in Bangladesh and pave the way for long-term collaboration across tourism promotion, trade engagement and media outreach.
