The Royal Thai Army has launched a targeted military operation along the Cambodian border, citing a direct threat to national security and the safety of civilians in several northeastern provinces. Troops under the 2nd Army Region carried out coordinated strikes on what officials described as Cambodian military positions and supply structures on Sunday (December 7).

According to Asia News Network, the operation focused on former scam-network buildings, anti-drone pylons, and logistic routes believed to be used for moving heavy weapons close to Thai territory. The army said the action became necessary after intelligence reports indicated an unusual build-up of Cambodian forces, including combat-support units and artillery preparations that could destabilize the frontier.

Military officers said all targets were selected to avoid civilian areas, and the mission was conducted under Thailand’s right to self-defence. The Royal Thai Air Force also took part, confirming that its aircraft struck only military-linked installations and command points.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul later briefed the media, stating that Thailand would “take all measures required” to protect its borders if threats continued. The National Security Council has also convened to assess the situation as tensions rise between the two neighbors, months after a fragile ceasefire ended earlier clashes along the disputed border.
