Two pilots of the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) were killed on Thursday (January 29) after a light attack aircraft crashed during a training mission in northern Thailand’s Chiang Mai province, the air force said.

The AT-6TH aircraft, operated by Wing 41, went down at around 10:20 a.m. local time in Chom Thong district, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Chiang Mai International Airport, according to RTAF spokesperson Chakkrit Thammavichai.

The aircraft was conducting a combat search and rescue training exercise at the time of the accident, Chakkrit said in a statement, adding that no civilians were injured and no property damage was reported in the surrounding area.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash and will carry it out with strict adherence to aviation safety standards to determine the exact cause of the incident, the spokesperson said.

The Royal Thai Air Force expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased pilots and said it would provide full assistance and support to those affected.
