The future strategic direction of the Indo-Pacific region will be significantly influenced by the evolving relationship between Bangladesh and the United States, according to Paul Kapur.

Speaking at a reception held in honor of a 25-member Bangladeshi business delegation visiting Washington, D.C., Kapur emphasized the growing importance of bilateral ties. The delegation is participating in the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2026, which has drawn thousands of global investors and officials.

Kapur noted that recent agreements between the two countries have helped reduce non-tariff barriers, creating new opportunities for American businesses to enter the Bangladeshi market. He added that such developments are expected to deepen economic engagement and expand trade prospects between the two nations.

He also expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s decision to procure aircraft from Boeing, calling it a positive step in strengthening commercial ties. “Bangladesh–US relations will play a decisive role in shaping the Indo-Pacific strategy in the coming years,” Kapur said.

The summit, taking place from May 3 to 6, has brought together more than 5,000 participants from over 100 countries, including around 2,700 investors. A reception for the Bangladeshi delegation was hosted by the US-Bangladesh Business Council.

According to Daily Ajker Patrika, the remarks underscore Washington’s increasing focus on Dhaka as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific amid shifting regional dynamics and economic realignments.

The event was also attended by Brent T. Christensen and Tariq Mohammad Ariful Islam, alongside officials from chambers of commerce and diplomats from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.
