Bangladesh and Australia have reaffirmed the need for sustained international engagement to address the protracted Rohingya crisis, stressing that the humanitarian burden continues to affect both Bangladesh and regional stability.

The issue came up during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila on Friday.

According to BSS, the two ministers discussed the ongoing Rohingya crisis and underscored the importance of continued international support for the more than one million forcibly displaced Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh, noting that the prolonged situation remains a major humanitarian and regional challenge.

Beyond the Rohingya issue, the ministers exchanged views on reforming the United Nations system, expanding Bangladesh-Australia bilateral cooperation, and exploring opportunities for high-level exchanges aimed at deepening relations between the two countries.
