Five Bangladeshi nationals were among nine people killed in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Kolkata, West Bengal, early Wednesday, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Local police have confirmed the identities of five of the deceased as Bangladeshi nationals, while the identities of the remaining victims are yet to be established, according to a press release issued by the ministry. Four of the five Bangladeshi victims were members of the same family.

The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has contacted the families of the deceased and is coordinating with Indian authorities to provide necessary assistance. According to BSS, six other Bangladeshi nationals were injured in the incident but were released after receiving primary medical treatment.

Following reports of the fire, officials from the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission immediately reached the site and began collecting information about the deceased and injured. Mission officials are maintaining round-the-clock contact with hospitals and local police to monitor the situation and assist affected Bangladeshi nationals.

The Deputy High Commission has also opened a 24-hour helpline to provide information and assistance to Bangladeshis affected by the incident.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka and the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata are maintaining close contact with the relevant Indian authorities as efforts continue to confirm details of the incident and provide support to the victims and their families.
