On the occasion of Armed Forces Day 2024, President Md. Shahabuddin, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus issued separate messages paying tribute to the nation’s defenders. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared the announcement in a press release.

In a solemn ceremony honoring the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971, the President and the Chief Adviser laid wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (Eternal Flame) in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday morning. Following their tribute, the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force—General Waker-uz-Zaman, Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan—laid wreaths on behalf of their respective forces.

Later in the day, the Chiefs of the Armed Forces paid courtesy calls to the Chief Adviser at the Armed Forces Division and the President at Bangabhaban.

Special Programs Highlight Contributions and Sacrifices

The Chief Adviser presided over a special program at the Army Multipurpose Complex, honoring freedom fighters and their heirs. Tokens of appreciation were distributed, and the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with the awardees. Dignitaries present included officials from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, defense leadership, and senior civilian and military figures.

At 4:00 PM, the Chief Adviser hosted a grand reception at Sena Kunjo, Dhaka Cantonment. The guest list featured high-profile attendees, including the Chief Justice, foreign diplomats, former leaders, freedom fighters, decorated officers, and cultural icons. Bangladesh Television aired the event live.

Nationwide Observance

Military installations across Bangladesh held simultaneous programs. In Dhaka, Khulna, Chandpur, Barisal, and Chittagong, decorated naval ships were open to public viewing. Writing and drawing competitions were organized in Armed Forces-run educational institutions, while special supplements in national newspapers commemorated the day.

Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar broadcast special programs—"Bishesh Anirban" and "Bishesh Durbar"—highlighting the significance of the Armed Forces' contributions. Private TV channels are scheduled to air similar programs.
