Fierce clashes between Myanmar's military and the Arakan Army, a rebel group, continued throughout Friday night into Saturday morning in Maungdaw, Rakhine State. The relentless sound of shelling and gunfire has created widespread panic among residents living near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Teknaf.

Residents in the border areas reported hearing loud explosions throughout the night. Omar Farooq, a Teknaf border resident, shared his experience: "It was a sleepless night due to the shelling. Loud gunfire continued until morning, leaving women and children terrified."

The Arakan Army has reportedly captured large parts of Rakhine State, prompting the Myanmar junta to launch a series of aggressive counter-attacks. The ongoing violence has left the Teknaf border region reverberating with the sounds of mortar shell explosions and gunfire.

Key locations such as Kharankhali, Nhila, Jadimura, and Shapuree Island are among the areas where the sounds of conflict have been most intense.

Local leaders warn that the escalating conflict in Maungdaw, home to a significant Rohingya population, could lead to a new wave of refugees fleeing to Bangladesh. A Rohingya leader in a Bangladeshi camp revealed that many Rohingyas in Myanmar are reaching out to relatives in Bangladesh, fearing for their lives.

In response to the situation, Bangladesh's Border Guard (BGB) and Coast Guard have ramped up patrols along the Naf River and border roads from Whykong to Shapuree Island. Major Ishtiaq Murshed, acting commander of the BGB's Teknaf-2 Battalion, assured that strict measures are in place to prevent any border infiltration.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sheikh Ehsan Uddin stated: "We are closely monitoring the situation and keeping an eye on border residents. BGB and Coast Guard members are on high alert to prevent infiltration and ensure security."

As the conflict intensifies, border residents remain on edge, grappling with fear and uncertainty while authorities brace for any potential fallout from the escalating violence.
