Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus paid a solemn tribute to former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during a visit to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday. Dr. Singh, a renowned economist and statesman, passed away last week, leaving a legacy of transformative leadership in India.

Arriving at the High Commission in Baridhara on (December 31), Professor Yunus was received by Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma. The Chief Adviser placed a floral wreath at Dr. Singh's portrait as a mark of respect and wrote a heartfelt condolence message in the book of remembrance opened for the late leader.

Speaking briefly with the High Commissioner, Professor Yunus shared his personal memories of Dr. Singh, emphasizing his simplicity, wisdom, and lasting impact on India and the world. "How simple he was! How wise he was!" Professor Yunus said, recalling their enduring friendship and the late Prime Minister's pivotal role in shaping modern India.

Professor Yunus further highlighted Dr. Singh's contributions to India's emergence as a global economic powerhouse. "His leadership and vision transformed India, laying the foundation for its growth as an economic giant on the world stage," he remarked.

India is currently observing a seven-day period of national mourning to honor the memory of the former Prime Minister. Flags across the country have been flown at half-mast, and memorial services are being held to commemorate his life and legacy.

Dr. Singh, widely respected for his integrity and intellect, served as India's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He was instrumental in implementing landmark economic reforms and fostering regional cooperation, earning him admiration from leaders across the globe.

The visit by Professor Yunus underscored the deep respect and camaraderie shared between the two nations and their leaders, a reflection of the enduring legacy of Dr. Manmohan Singh.
