Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, reaffirmed China's commitment to deepening ties with Bangladesh during a courtesy visit on Sunday. He emphasized China's readiness to share its experiences in reform and development and to implement agreements and consensus reached by both nations.

Ambassador Yao expressed China’s unwavering dedication to strengthening China-Bangladesh relations, regardless of any changes in Bangladesh’s domestic situation. He extended his congratulations to Prof Yunus on his appointment as Chief Adviser of the interim government and welcomed its formation, underscoring China’s support for building a prosperous, democratic, and poverty-free Bangladesh.

The ambassador highlighted China’s adherence to the principle of non-interference, respecting the development path chosen by the Bangladeshi people, and expressed hope for Bangladesh’s continued progress toward unity, stability, and prosperity.

Ambassador Yao reiterated that China and Bangladesh share a longstanding friendship and a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which serves as a model for mutual respect and win-win cooperation among developing nations. He also expressed China’s firm support for Bangladesh in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, while playing a more prominent role in international and regional affairs.

With both nations at critical stages of development, Ambassador Yao noted the immense potential for cooperation. He announced that China is preparing to import fresh mangoes from Bangladesh, expedite negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, optimize the China-Bangladesh Investment Agreement, and encourage local currency settlements in bilateral trade. Additionally, he expressed China’s commitment to supporting Chinese enterprises in investing in Bangladesh.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Yao emphasized plans for the 'China-Bangladesh Year of People-to-People Exchanges' in 2025, aiming to elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to new heights through continued visits and exchanges at all levels.

Finally, the ambassador reiterated China's determination to engage relevant parties in Myanmar to achieve a ceasefire, creating favorable conditions for the early repatriation of displaced people from Rakhine State.
