Dhaka has voiced deep concern over the recent influx of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals, driven by ongoing armed conflicts in Myanmar, particularly in Rakhine state. The concern was expressed during a meeting between Myanmar's Ambassador to Bangladesh, U Kyaw Soe Moe, and Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Md Jashim Uddin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, according to an official press release.

During the meeting, the foreign secretary urged Myanmar to take immediate steps to curb armed conflicts near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border and prevent the infiltration of both civilian and armed individuals from Rakhine into Bangladesh. He emphasized the need for the early, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation of the displaced Myanmar nationals back to their homeland.

In response, Ambassador Moe assured that repatriation would begin once peace and stability are restored in Rakhine state.

Both sides also recognized the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, shipping connectivity, energy, and agriculture. They discussed various other bilateral issues as well.

Ambassador Moe congratulated Foreign Secretary Uddin on his new role, expressing hope that bilateral relations between the two nations would strengthen during his tenure. The foreign secretary, in turn, congratulated the ambassador on his appointment.
