France's special envoy for Myanmar, Ambassador Christian Lecharvy, has reaffirmed his country's commitment to support Bangladesh in addressing the ongoing Rohingya crisis. During a meeting held on Wednesday (November 13) with Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin, discussions focused on the protracted issue of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDMN) and the worsening conflict situation in Myanmar.
Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin expressed Bangladesh's disappointment over the lack of progress in the repatriation process of the Rohingya refugees. He emphasized the urgent need for a resolution to the crisis and conveyed concerns over the escalating armed conflict in Myanmar, particularly in the Rakhine State, which has exacerbated the situation.
Ambassador Lecharvy acknowledged Bangladesh's significant humanitarian efforts in hosting the Rohingya refugees and reiterated France's solidarity and support. He highlighted the importance of addressing the ongoing violence in Myanmar and underscored the need for political dialogue that includes the Rohingya issue as a central component.
The discussions also covered the complexities of the crisis, the role of international and regional stakeholders, and the necessity of ensuring accountability for atrocities committed against the Rohingya population. The meeting reinforced the importance of collaborative international efforts in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict and advancing the repatriation process.
This stance by France reflects ongoing international pressure on Myanmar to address the crisis and demonstrates solidarity with Bangladesh as it continues to manage the humanitarian challenges posed by the influx of Rohingya refugees.
