Indonesia has announced its readiness to temporarily host around 1,000 Palestinians from Gaza who have been wounded or orphaned during Israel’s ongoing assault on the besieged enclave. The statement was made by President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday, according to local media reports.

“We are ready to accept the injured. We will immediately send our foreign minister to consult with the Palestinian government,” President Prabowo said, as quoted by the Jakarta Globe, just before departing on a diplomatic tour of the Middle East.

The plan, he emphasized, will require close coordination with Palestinian authorities and is intended to offer temporary refuge until conditions in Gaza improve.

President Prabowo's tour includes visits to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan, with a stop in Türkiye also on the agenda. The trip aims to engage regional leaders in efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“This visit reflects Indonesia’s commitment to actively contributing to the resolution of the crisis in Gaza,” the president stated, though he did not indicate when he would return to Jakarta.

Since October 2023, Israel's relentless military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 50,800 Palestinians — the majority of them women and children — according to reports from the region.

In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in Gaza.
