The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to assisting in the repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar. This assurance was given during a farewell meeting between IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission Abdusattor Esoev and Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain at the Foreign Ministry.

During the discussion, Hossain highlighted the importance of IOM’s continued efforts in safeguarding the rights of Bangladeshi migrant workers in both destination and transit countries. He also acknowledged IOM’s crucial role in supporting the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs), commonly known as Rohingyas, in Cox’s Bazar and emphasized the need for their safe and dignified return to Myanmar.

Hossain expressed gratitude for Esoev’s active contribution during his tenure in Bangladesh, praising IOM’s ongoing support in repatriating and reintegrating nationals caught in irregular situations or humanitarian crises.

In response, Esoev voiced satisfaction with his time in Bangladesh, lauding the country’s leadership in advocating for safe and orderly migration, as well as its dedication to the Global Compact on Migration (GCM).

Earlier, Esoev also held a meeting with the Foreign Secretary as part of his farewell engagements, according to a press release.
