The junta's army has been retreating in the face of resistance from the Arakan Army, a powerful insurgent group active in Rakhine. In the last 1 year, they have taken over 10 towns in the state by defeating the Junta government forces. Most residents in Rakhine are currently completely dependent on aid for food. The aid is reaching less than a quarter of the state's 873,000 population, the United Nations (UN) said. The organization also fears that many people may die of starvation if food does not reach all areas.

The junta government is deliberately starving civilians in areas occupied by the Arakan Army. The army is creating an artificial food crisis by increasing surveillance at checkpoints, blocking roads and waterways, and not allowing human rights workers to work. Apart from this, the relief workers complained that the relief activities were being disrupted due to the shutdown of the internet service. The UN officials alleged that the army is using food as a weapon by blocking it in various ways. Apart from that, they have compared it with war crimes.

The Ming Aung Laing administration accused rebel groups. Increased prices of daily commodities and disruption of crop production due to conflict is also one of the causes of food crisis in the country. In addition, they claim that the Myanmar government is committed to the equality of all citizens.

The fighting situation between government forces and rebel groups in Maungdaw area of Rakhine state of Myanmar is getting complicated. The houses of Teknaf are shaking with the sound of bombs and mortar shells from the other side. Residents of the border area are in fear. The Arakan Army is attacking the Hyndapara army base in the city. There are no more people in our village. Attacking with big weapons, it is difficult for us to live. So I came to Bangladesh by sea to save my life.
