The process of repatriating the 330 border guards and army personnel who had sought refuge in Bangladesh from Myanmar amid ongoing conflict in their homeland began on Thursday morning.
Bangladeshi authorities were preparing to return the security force personnel to Myanmar following discussions between the border guard agencies of both nations.
According to BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam, a team from Border Guard Bangladesh, headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, was in talks with a delegation from Myanmar's Border Guard Police.
"All necessary arrangements have been made. Border Guard Police members from Ghumdum in Naikhongchhari and Hnila in Teknaf have been relocated to a spot near the navy jetty ghat in Inani," Islam stated.
The recent capture of a town in Rakhine State by the rebel group Arakan Army sparked fierce clashes in nearby regions.
These individuals had crossed into Bangladesh between February 4 and 7, prompting bilateral discussions on their repatriation. Bangladesh also provided medical treatment to those injured during the conflict.
The handover process, as outlined by the BGB, involves a Myanmar Navy vessel anchoring near the Bangladesh border, with a Bangladeshi tourist ship facilitating the transfer of personnel.
