According to the Kale People's Strike Committee, nearly 100 residents of Kale Township in Myanmar's Sagaing Region have lost their lives at the hands of Myanmar regime troops over the past two months, with a significant number being women and children.

From February 1 to April 25, the committee reported that at least 97 individuals were killed in Kale, a strategically important township bordering Chin State, where the junta has faced substantial resistance and incurred heavy troop casualties.

Data compiled by the committee indicates that 60% of the fatalities were women, 20% were children, and 20% were men. The victims predominantly fell victim to artillery and drone attacks as regime military units advanced into the northern and western regions of the township. The committee expressed concerns that the actual number of civilian casualties might surpass those documented in the provided statistics.

A member of the committee informed The Irrawaddy that the civilian death toll from the relentless shelling and bombing in Kale continues to escalate on a daily basis.

On Wednesday, residents reported that three children and an elderly man were killed, and a woman succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack launched by a junta column advancing in northern Kale Township, targeting their village of Pyin Taw Oo.
