In the first half of 2024, Myanmar witnessed 420 incidents involving landmines and unexploded ordnance, leading to 102 civilian deaths and 590 injuries, according to UNICEF.

Shan State was particularly affected, with 20 civilians killed and 147 injured, accounting for 24% of the total casualties during this period.

In Sagaing Region, 19 civilians lost their lives and 99 were injured, making up 17% of the casualties from landmines and unexploded ordnance.

Rakhine State also faced significant impacts, with 15 civilians killed and 67 injured, representing 12% of the total casualties.

Across other regions, including Ayeyawady, Bago, Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Magway, Mandalay, Mon, Nay Pyi Taw, Taninthayi, and Yangon, there were 180 incidents resulting in 325 casualties.

UNICEF highlighted that children comprised 32% of the total casualties from these landmine and unexploded ordnance incidents across the country.
