Around forty additional members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) have crossed into Bangladesh, seeking refuge amidst escalating clashes in the Rakhine state. Bangladesh officials confirmed the influx, stating that the BGP officers entered through Sabrang-Acharbuniya and Nayapara of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. Initially accommodated at Hnila High School, they were promptly disarmed and placed under safe custody, according to sources from the foreign and home ministries.

Chairman of Sabrang pion parishad, Noor Hossain, reported the arrival, noting that the Myanmar BGP members were found attempting to enter with weapons. This marks the first wave of arrivals in May, following the repatriation of 288 Myanmar army and border force members on April 25. The previous group had entered Bangladesh separately, traversing the River Naf and land borders since March 11.

In February, another 330 members of Myanmar's security forces, including BGP officers, army personnel, and immigration officials, sought shelter in Bangladesh amidst clashes with the Arakan Army in Rakhine state. However, all 330 personnel were repatriated on February 15, underscoring the volatile and ongoing nature of the conflict in the region.
